Introduction

The chemistry course is a one year elective science course recommended for College Preparatory 10th grade students.  In this course you will

learn the basic principles of chemistry.  It will help you acquire some of the knowledge and skills which are needed to understand many of the

scientific and technological issues of our times.  You will master this course if you put the following statement into practice, "Success is not

something to wait for, it's something to work for."  I will guarantee, if you put forth your BEST effort, you will be successful in this course.

Materials

  • 8 x 11 3 Ring Notebook, paper, pencil / pen(blue or black ink), Hi-Lite marker

  • Textbook

  • Scientific Calculator

  • Graph Paper and colored pencils

  • Hair pull backer for students with long hair

Grading Procedure and Testing

  • Grading Scale

    • 90% - A

    • 80% - B

    • 70% - C

    • 60% - D

    • < 50% - F

  • All points from class work are used cumulatively  for quarter and semester grade

  • Tests are varied in type

  • Graded strictly on basis of total points

  • Expect pop quiz's

  • Test make up will be handled on a individual basis

Assignments

  • I will collect the assignments at the beginning of the period

    • IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO ALL OF THE ASSIGNMENTS WHETHER THE INSTRUCTOR ASKS FOR THEM OR NOT

  • Place any work needing to be collected in the box on my desk

  • All assignments will be worth 5 points unless otherwise stated

  • NO LATE WORK

Laboratory Work

  • Labs are performed in class with a lab partner

  • Lab report due dates will be posted on the board

  • Lab reports will be worth 10 points unless otherwise noted

  • If you are absent during a lab activity, you can make it up during lunch time or do an alternate assignment that's worth the same amount of points
